Skills
After fielding has been completed, then batters and bowlers need to get their skills game ready.
Batting
Feeders throw balls on the full toss, or half volley (when driving), to help batter’s feel bat on ball, get their eye in, and increase confidence before batting.
Make sure feeds are good, and you are hitting into a net, or a group of fielders.
Go through the full range of shots the batter is going to play in the game.
Feeders through low full tosses to the batter, and the batter hits the ball back to the feeder with one bounce.
This is a good way to feel bat on ball, play with a vertical bat, and get the batter’s eye in.
Make sure the batter is hitting the ball into the ground straight after contact, meaning they are playing the ball late and under their eyes.
Bowling
Bowlers can build up their confidence by bowling balls before the game.
Please make sure your first ball in the game, is not your first ball of the day!
Setup two stumps parallel to the pitch on the edge of the square
Set out two cones, one 4m from the stumps (for spinners), and the other 5/6m from the stumps (for pace bowlers).
These cones represent good lengths for the type of bowler they are.
Bowl one after each in other into the keeper’s gloves.
Trying to zone in and hit the cones.
You can place other cones for left handers, as well as different lengths like yorkers.
Visualisation
If you can, try to spend a bit of time standing by the stumps, familiarising yourself with the pitch and ground dynamics.
Start to picture how you’ll score your runs, or the bowler running in.
As well as zoning in and pinpointing exactly where on the pitch you’re going to pitch the ball.
Go and relax before the game starts.
Think positive. Good luck.
